L'Acadco Dancing
L’Acadco is a dance company whose goal is to be a united Caribbean dance force. This goal became a fulfilled dream for its founder L’Antionette Stines at this year’s dance season.
The company has been performing for over thirty years, bringing together a stream of dance influences from Europe, Africa and Asia.
Classical dance lovers never would miss L’Acadco’s season of performances at the Philip Sherlock Center for the Creative Arts that is usually held between June and July each year.
Stines is a leading Caribbean choreographer who is widely recognized for her outstanding dances such as Satta Masangana. These dances showcase the extensions inherent in classical ballet; undulating torso and hip movements from our African ancestry, and the ‘bird of paradise’ hands and movements of Indian extraction.
No L’Acadco performance is complete without drumming, and it was the sound of the drums which brought the curtain down this year, but not before Stines was given her moment in the spotlight.
The former Martha Graham student kicked up her heels to the infectious sounds.
