Jimmy Cliff
In 2015 a journalist with the UK’s Independent asked Jimmy Cliff to summarize his life and this is what he said – ‘Jimmy Chambers was born in Jamaica in 1948, later changing his surname to Cliff.
He had his first hit 'Hurricane Hattie' aged just 14. Cliff scored international success with singles 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People' and 'Vietnam'.
Cliff starred in the film The Harder They Come, providing the soundtrack, including the title track, plus 'You can get it if you really want' and 'Many Rivers to Cross'. Cliff's new album Rebirth is out now; he plays at the Jamaica 50 concert at the indigO2 in London on 6 August.'
Cliff now lives in the rural western end of Jamaica where he was grew up.
A short summary reflecting his humility, but there is so much more to Cliff’s accomplishments, including winning the Grammy (2013) and inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Cliff also received Jamaica’s highest national award, the Order of Merit for his eminent international distinction in the field of the arts.
Most recently he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Irie FM, a leading Jamaican broadcasting company.
