Jamaican Writer Marlon James
A Brief history of Seven Killings is a fiction based on the near tragic event that took place in December 1976, when hired killers attempted to kill Bob Marley and members of his group at their recording studio in Kingston. The author of this riveting novel is Marlon James, whose book is attracting critical acclaim internationally.
Marlon James is no stranger to winning awards. In 2005 his first novel, John Crow’s Devil, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Later in 2010 his novel The Book of Night Women won the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. A Brief History of Seven Killings is a finalist in this year’s National Book Critics Award. The book is also among the final nominees for the UK Man Booker Prize 2015.
James was born in Kingston in 1970, studied language and literature at the University of the West Indies, as well as Wikes University in the USA. He currently a professor in the English Department of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA and is working on his next novel.
