Down Town Food Venues

Downtown Kingston Food Venues

In case you are at down town Kingston and would like to eat at some of the popular places where locals frequent, here is a guide by Jamaica Observer journalist Vaughn Gray.

Grab A Smoothie
Owned and operated by couple Rhaul Coke and Sherina Whyte, Grab A Smoothie offers customers lighter fare for a good price. The smoothies are made from mainly natural ingredients like oats, apples, bananas, peanuts, Ribena berries and Irish moss. They also incorporate popular health foods, such as kale, chia, pumpkin and flax seeds, moringa and spirulina. Grab A Smoothie also offers five panini sandwiches, such as chicken ham, jerked chicken and avocado. Each day there's a combo deal that includes a panini sandwich and a small smoothie for $500 (CHF 5).
Location: 19-21 King Street

Island Squeez
The food is really good. Opened between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm seven days a week, the restaurant serves breakfast — hard-dough bread and bagel sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, smoothies and shakes.  Lunch time comprises boxed lunch favourites, pasta, sandwich wraps, hot dogs and burgers. The day we visited popular boxed lunch options included the Jack Daniel's “barb fried” chicken, coconut curried chicken, pumpkin style steamed fish and the lunch menu stalwart fried chicken. Its popularity is a testament to owner Kevin Pearson's leadership and his unflappable demeanour. During the lunch rush Pearson oscillated between serving lunches and greeting customers who clearly are like friends.
Location: 141 Harbour Street

Heroes Circle
At Miss Alice food stall at National Heroes’ Circle you are made to feel like a best friend partaking in her crab, soup and corn.  The vendors there have traditionally done a brisk business.  Miss Alice’s food is very good. Not sure how she seasons her crab or what she combines with chicken foot, soup bone and cow skin to make a vat of delicious-smelling soup. But whatever it is that she does has gained her faithful fans. You don't even have to leave your vehicle. Pull up to her stall, wave and smile and she's ready to “set you up”. Crabs are between $300 and $500, roast corn $200 and a serving of soup is $300 (CHF 3)
Location: National Heroes’ Circle in front of VOUCH
